Cleans web pages of all unnecessary visual elements, retains only the essential content: text, illustrations and images; layout and typography are customizable. In addition, this tool manages a bibliographic database, a persistent offline annotation.
What is Outline Reader?
Outline Reader is a Firefox add-on that cleans web pages of unnecessary visual elements, retains essential content, and allows customization of layout and typography. It also includes a bibliographic database and offline annotation management.
NOTE for Firefox mobile : As of today, you will be able to install any extension listed on addons.mozilla.org in Firefox Nightly ONLY. To that end, follow this procedure https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2020/09/29/expanded-extension-support-in-firefox-for-android-nightly/
Besides rendering a reader mode, this tool can also persistently store data:
Two kinds of data are implemented: notes (collection named 'publist') and the rendered page with/without highlighted notes (collection named 'offlinepages'):
Proceed as follow: - 'publist': select some text (this will be transformed as an annotation), click the 'publist' icon, fill the predfined entries or add your owns tags. ++Most of the entries are editable on the fly at various step.
Also authors or tags must be separated by a comma (this will allow a search by author or tag) ++To allow some rich output, each "author" may be rewritten like this: author<url@location> where location is a an address or something else
Outline Reader is risky to use as it requires a number of sensitive permissions that can potentially harm your browser and steal your data. Exercise caution when installing this add-on. Review carefully before installing. We recommend that you only install Outline Reader if you trust the publisher.
Outline Reader has earned a fairly good reputation and likely can be trusted.
