Summary

Historify will store your history with screenshots of visited websites in a gallery. You will definitely need this Add-on if you wish to find websites again that you accidentally closed a while ago. The screenshots will help you to search faster for the website since most people slightly remember what the website looked like. Please be aware that this is still in development and that bugs currently do exist. Neat features will be added soon (e.g. search, visit dates).

Frequently asked questions:

Will the screenshots eat up my hard drive space? Good question! Every screenshot gets compressed to reduce their cost of storage. Even though one screenshot might not need that much space, thousands for example will require much more space in comparison to one. Thousands of screenshots probably would go near the 100 MB mark. If you're concerned about your space, Historify has a autocleaner function which will only allow a userdefined maximum to be stored.

Will you add functionalities from user requests? Of course! Im always happy to hear about your thoughts. Without user requests I probably would not even know how to improve the addon. But functionalities will only be added if I am sure that every user can benefit by them.

Are you going to improve the loading performance of the history? Yes, I already worked out many plans to do so. But first of all I am focussing on some other problems.

Does this slow down my browsers performance?

This might be the only addon which is trying to visualize the browsing history. I searched the entire Chrome addon collection but could not find any. I was trying to find an alternative to good old safari's cover flow history view, but i was disappointed as that feature was removed. I have one request for the developer, the quality of the snapshots is extremely low. Can you please include the ability to increase the size of the thumbnails or decrease them? Also a cover flow view of all these thumbnails would put this addon on an entirely different level.

Hi guys, I tell you the story of one day that I'll mark with a black cross on my calendar. I run firefox 68 on a mobile device under android. Well I had 100+ tabs open and remarked that firefox was devastating my battery. Thus I searched an add-on to manage the session and save the tabs for later use. The add-on I have installed has wiped out ALL tabs beyond recovery. The sync function doesn't help here because of a random reliability. So I tried to recover some data through the browsing history. On a mobile device FF limits the accessible history pages you may access directly, why? I am clueless. One way to retrieve datais by entering 3 letters in the search bar such as "man" and access all the manuals you have been searching for in the last months. A tedious work. So, I decided to install an add-on that would better access and handle the history that FF does. Thus historyfy. As a first measure historyfy DELETED ALL my browsing history....Voila my tabs and my history gone forever. Last but not least, historyfy doesn't display anything! That is how two add-on ruined my day.

This is a wonderful, simple extension. I use it to keep an eye on my children's online activity, and for this reason, I really like that the Historify history doesn't delete when someone deletes the Firefox history. There are already dozens of extensions that focus on deleting history, and this is one of the only I could find that actually saves it. Thank you! Also, unlike a previous reviewer, I hope that you do not remove the option to run Historify in private windows. This option is also really helpful for those of us using the extension with children. I look forward to the developer adding visit dates, and would love to see a time stamp added as well.
