Summary

ABOUT "READ UP" Read Up makes it fast, easy, and free for parents and teachers to find books that match a young reader's reading level. As you browse book web pages, Read Up automatically looks up reading level data and displays that data directly on the web page you're viewing -- saving you a LOT of clicks.

Whether you're a parent looking for books for your child, or a teacher selecting for books for your students, Read Up will make that process WAY more efficient.

SUPPORTED READING LEVEL SYSTEMS Read Up currently displays the exact ATOS® Book Level, the exact AR Points value, an estimated Fountas & Pinnell Guided Reading Level (F&P GRL), the exact Lexile® Level, and an estimate Lexile® Level if the exact level is not available (estimated Lexile® Level are denoted with an asterisk). It also displays the grade level equivalent (the HUGE number), the book's word count (not page count, which can be deceiving with children's books!), general interest level, and more. We welcome your suggestions on other information that you use in your classroom or family to determine whether a book is a good fit for your kids.

SUPPORTED WEBSITES We currently support Amazon, Goodreads, Overdrive, Google Books, LibraryThing, Common Sense Media, Accelerated Reader Bookfinder, Book Depository, Barnes & Noble, and Indigo. If there are other websites where you frequently browse books, we welcome your suggestions!

THE "READ UP" STORY When I first dreamed up this extension, my 7-year-old son was an advanced reader, but was intimidated by "big chunks of text." I went on the hunt for books that were at his instructional level, but had a very low word count. I received tons of suggestions from online communities and booklists, but it was up to me to cross-check the reading level and wordcount of every book. 6 months later, that kid is an even stronger reader and is devouring books at an alarming rate. I was whittled away hours of my life clicking through book lists, researching book levels and word counts, creating complicated spreadsheets to keep my findings organized... I finally decided it was time to hire an extension developer to make this dream a reality. And now I'm putting it out into the world, to give other parents, teachers, and homeschoolers just a little slice of their time back. ♥

User reviews
Perfect for grade schoolers working on AR points. My 2nd grader reads like crazy but unless he gets the book from the school library we aren't sure what level or points are associated with the books we have at home.
