Reddit Enhancement Suite (RES) is the only reason I still use Reddit, particularly after the "new and improved" layout was introduced. Without RES, Reddit becomes almost unbearable to navigate, especially for users like me who prefer a more streamlined and efficient browsing experience.
One of the biggest advantages of RES is that it automatically redirects all links to old.reddit.com, which is far superior to the bloated, overly padded layout of the new Reddit. Old Reddit is more compact, making it easier to quickly scan through posts and see interesting links without being overwhelmed by large images, GIFs, or unnecessary whitespace.
The old Reddit interface, combined with RES, is much easier on the eyes. There’s no need to deal with the cluttered design of new Reddit, which wastes a lot of screen space and forces you to scroll endlessly through oversized media. With RES, I get a clean, text-focused experience where I can focus on content rather than visual distractions.
RES also allows me to fine-tune my browsing experience with features like infinite scrolling, inline image viewing, Dark Mode, "Expando" to automatically expand child comments, and keyboard shortcuts, which make navigating Reddit faster and more intuitive. These features are indispensable for quickly moving through threads without having to constantly click between pages or open new tabs.
The ability to tag users, highlight comments from OPs or my favorite commenters in certain subs, and filter out unwanted content in real-time makes Reddit far more usable. These tools and all of the other tweaks RES allows, helps me manage large threads efficiently and ensures that I don’t miss important posts.
In short, RES transforms Reddit into a functional, efficient browsing experience that prioritizes content over fluff. Without it, I’d stop using Reddit altogether.
