Tab Origin is a Firefox add-on that keeps track of the URL that originated each tab, allowing you to quickly go back to its source page. It solves the problem of losing the parent tab and provides a configurable shortcut or right-click option to return to the original page.

Have you ever opened a new tab and later wanted to go back to where it came from, only to realize that the parent tab is long gone?
Maybe that's just me.
Anyway, this addon solves that problem by keeping track of the URL that originated each tab, so you can return to it with a configurable shortcut or by right-clicking in the tab bar.
The default shortcut is cmd/ctrl-shift-u
Note: when a window is closed all the tab parent information is lost. :(
Compare to: Back To Owner Tab
-- Tab Origin does not change the back button.
-- Tab Origin can re-open parent URL if it's closed before the child.

Great addon. Great when you get sucked into something and find yourself 5 or 6 tabs and want to quickly get back to the original table, you just ctrl-shif-u 5 or 6 times.
Th only thing I wish it had was the ability to close the tab when you switch away. In the scenario I just gave, I then have to go and middle click over them all to close them, but if there was a shortcut to switch back and close at the same time, it would be great.
Thanks for a very handy extension, that works very well.
But today there's a big problem with the update. If I allow the update to install, it installs Text Rewriter.
I never installed Text Rewriter. Could it be that somehow you or Mozilla mixed up Text Rewriter and Tab Origin?
For the moment I blocked updating.
Doesn't install in right-click menu.
Simply not there. Even after a restart.
What it does instead, is install an invisible button in the toolbar. The button cannot be seen until you hover the mouse over it, and then it's just a tiny blank oval.
And THEN it doesn't function. At all.
