Summary

To use: Pin the uBypass extension so it shows up on your browser toolbar, then on a paywalled webpage hit the button and it should open a new tab showing the full article. Allowing permissions to run on the page itself will help clean up the cached page and remove some blank elements where ads used to be (google doesnt save the ads so its just a big empty block).

How it actually works: Googles internet crawler goes through sites and indexes them. This info is used to give accurate search information. So when you google some article google knows about it and can return the appropriate webpage. To give the best search results these sites let google view the FULL article as opposed to the paywalled version consumers see. By accessing that cached google search version of the site we can display the full article bypassing the paywall. Original idea by 12ft.io

Also added some request blocking for simple js blocking if the site will load the article locally.

Code is all open source if anyone wants to help improve this with some fancier ui or other improvements. https://github.com/HoveringGoat/PaywallBypass

I install it. I try using it on a New York Times article. Clicking the button leads me to a 404 error page. I have uninstalled it.
