For any URL containing non-latin character unicode in the domain, a large display banner will alert the user at the top of the page. What I like to call "Deceptive Character Phishing"
This plugin is 100% open-sourced and can be found at: https://github.com/uxai/unicode-verifier
The use case for this is to avoid phishing. These days, scammers have gotten smart and started to register domain names that look the same as your bank, but it may actually be using different character encoding.
The plugin runs in the background and checks the URL of each page you visit. You will never see any popup, and there aren't any settings to set. Let's just hope you never see the warning in the future too. If you do - then leave the page immediately.
Disclaimer: If you visit domains that use characters other than english, the plugin will still flag it, as this is a very simple plugin to flag any top-level non-english website.
- visiting http://あ.jp/ will be flagged
- visiting a website like domain.com/あ will not be flagged
