What is Web REC?
Web REC is a Firefox add-on that permits you to record your web browser navigation and view all data sent and received from remote servers in a readable way. It maintains a detailed history of navigations, traces browsing history, and provides technical details on HTTP requests and responses. With Web REC, you can export and import recordings for analysis, including images, URLs, dates, headers, file content, and more. Please note that all traffic is saved, and exported files are encrypted for security.

Web REC permit to record your online web browser navigation creating a database with details sent/received

This plugin was developed to meet the following needs:

  • Maintain a detailed history of the navigations thanks to date and time saved for each download / upload.
  • Trace browsing history to get a proof of your traffic .
  • Learn more about technical details on http requests and response to analyze the behavior of a web server: useful for developers and testers.
The plugin once installed allows you to use the following features:
  • You can start recording a web browsing that will record all the operations performed during browsing, such as opening and closing a window or tab and visiting a website with all your actions and results obtained.
  • Through an administrative panel it is always possible to check the status of the current recording and those made.
  • You can export each recording individually as an encrypted binary file to be saved on your device. You can also import a previously exported file to be opened and analyzed.
Each recording shows a list of navigations made, each navigation can be composed of one or more requests depending on the type of navigation carried out.

Every single navigation shows the requests and the answers with the following data:

  • Image captured while browsing.
  • URL of the page visited.
  • Date of browsing.
  • Headers, Method and Status of the request / response http.
  • File content and type.
  • Additional details.
Remember that all traffic is saved including passwords and session cookies so for security reasons the exportable file is encrypted.

This add-on has potention! It would be great if a future release shows when you're recording. For example change te color of the red dot, or make it slowly blink.
